How many days does it take to complete Ohenro by bicycle?

It takes about 20days (57km/day in average). Please be prepared for steep ups and downs.

What are the bicycle riders must observe in Shikoku?
|
In June 2015, a tighter bicycle regulation was enforced. The Japanese traffic laws do not distinguish bicycles from cars. Bicycles must run on the left side of the road. Accidents can happen at the bus stop. Please do not try to overtake the bus at the bus stop by riding through on its left side ride. The chance is high that you may clash into passengers descending from the bus. You just wait until the bus starts or if necessary overtake the bus by riding on its right side. The inflictions of damages on pedestrians are in most cases attributed to the carelessness of the bicycle rider.
No brake piste is forbidden in Japan.
It is a violation of law to ride a bicycle without turning on lights.
It is also forbidden to ride while listening to music or playing with smart phones.
Drunken driving is against law. You may be fined up to one million yen.
In the following cases one may ride on the sidewalk.
1. There is on [ the sidewalk a sign ] stating that the bicycle riding is permissible on the road.
2. The rider’s age is less than 13 or more than 70. Or, the rider is physically handicapped.
3. When unavoidable for safety sake.
You may walk on sidewalks pushing your bike. Once you dismount your bike you are a pedestrian.
The driving rules for the bicycle are much the same as those for the car. However, you are not allowed to ride on the highway no matter how fast you can ride your bicycle.

Can one do Ohenro by a rental bicycle?

The rental bicycle service is available in Shikoku but only in the city center. You can’t make a ride around Shikoku by a rented bicycle.
